Tourism entrepreneurs in Pokhara stage a protest demanding for timely vaccination.

  • On Monday,tourism entrepreneurs led a two hour long protest in front of the District administration office with placards reading,'No vaccines, No tourism'.

    Due to the urge of Pokhara Tourism Council, many tourism based associations comprising of Trekking Agency Association of Nepal(TAAN) Western Regional Association,Pokhara; Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry;Restaurant and Bar Association of Nepal(REBAN)Pokhara; Nepal Air Sports Association;Paschimanchal Hotel Association Nepal;among others had organised a rally calling the government that have been ignoring their frequent requests for rendering urgent vaccination against Coronavirus in order to function the tourism industry.Even so,they apprised of not running any tourism businesses in Pokhara unless the people involved in this sector will be administering COVID-19 jab.

    Chairman of Pokhara Tourism Council,Hari Bhattarai said that,'The door of Pokhara would be forever closed to tourists if they find that the employees or staff members who would be serving them were unvaccinated'.As a matter of fact,we are being contacted by such foreigners who have had inquired about the matter whilst making a reservation for the forthcoming period thereby the situation entails on the vaccination for no less than 25,000 folks belonging to this industry, Bhattarai added.

    Meanwhile,a memorandum signed by the demonstrators was handed over to the Chief District Officer which would be then circulated to the PrimeMinister,that includes many tourism revival programmes like stimulus packages and financial policies.

    According to the data provided by Nepal Tourism Board,nearly 58,058 foreign visitors entered Nepal in the first 6 months of fiscal year 2020-21 wherin 3,603 of them returned home during the month of June this year.
