The state minister Nasrul Hamid representing the Ministry of Power,Energy and Mineral Resources(MPEMR) during a press conference on Sunday stated that,the government of Bangladesh would be signing a contract on hydropower import with Nepal next month with an eye to meet its potential electricty demand.
In picture,Nasrul Hamid(left)and then Minister of Energy and Water resource Barshaman Pun (Right) had signed a MoU on 18 August,2018.
Bangladesh will soon buy around 700MW of hydropower from the government of Nepal. The state minister Hamid also mentioned that his government was subsequently planning to invest in the hydropower projects of Nepal as well as on setting up hydrowpower plants under the bipartite or tripartite agreement in Nepal and Bhutan,likewise.
The two countries had signed an energy cooperation agreement in the year 2018 to facilitate investment, development and trade in hydroelectricity,under which Bangladesh would be buying up to 9,000 MW of hydropower from Nepal by 2040.
