In the UK,the pandemic prevented any functions to take place;but until today The Great Western Railway (GWI) has organized an event to mark last year's 75th World War (WW)II commemoration wherein they had decided to pay a tribute by naming seven of its Intercity Express Trains after WWII heroes.
Tul Bahadur Pun VC,who passed away in 2011,was known for his valour in saving the lives of dozens of comarades during WWII. Similarly, GWI inaugurated the train service which was named after him in his honour at Paddington railway station,London.
In the ceremony Pun's son Arjun Tilija, daughter Megh Kumari and others were joined by actress as well vice-chairperson of 'Gurkha welfare Trust';Joanna Lumley OBE who has been advocating for the nobel cause of Gurkha rights, ever since.Joana began to applaud the bravery of the VC laureate and shared how deep her emotional bond lies with the family. She feels an immense sense of gratitude towards him for saving her father's Major James Rutherford Lumley life in 1944,then Burma.
Pun was not only celebrated in the battlefield but in real life too as in the year 2009, he again won the fight in the court for some 36,000 veterans, including him who were earlier denied UK residency.
