As per Article 168, Clause 5 of the Constitution of Nepal, Sita Poudel,the Province Governor has appointed the parliamentary party leader,Krishna Chandra Nepali as the new Chief Minister of Gandaki Province. The newly elected CM with his four council of ministers has taken the oath of office and secrecy, on Saturday evening at the province chief's office.
The post and the responsibility of the newly formed leaders comprising of Rajeev Gurung aka Deepak Manage an independent candidate, MadhuMaya Adhikari Gurung of CPN-Maoist Centre, Harisharan Acharya of Janata Samajbadi Party and Kumar Khadka of Nepal Congress is to be assigned later.
Meanwhile, Prithvi Subba Gurung has also congratulated CM over a phone,which Gurung had posted on his social media account.
Nepali had submitted the letter containing 31 lawmakers signature,at the Province Chief's office, a day ahead(Friday) than the expected deadline, to claim for the vacant post of CM.
It is to be noted that, All the provincial assembly members who have had signed infavour of Nepali were present at the Governors office including 15 from Nepal Congress,11 from CPN Maoist Centre, two each from Rastriya Janamorcha with Janata Samajbadi Party and a single deciding vote from independent member Deepak Manage.
Earlier,Poudel had appealed the political party to propose a candidate name by June 12(Saturday) , at 3pm for the position of the executive head of province in line with the formation of a new government.
However,Prithvi Subba Gurung ,after losing at the Provincial Assembly on Thursday ,also claimed for the post at the eleventh hour governed by the support from Mahantha Thakur led JSP and lawmaker Krishna Thapa. This caused a lot of controversy because the Province Chief didn't pin Nepali as Gurung's successor, still after garnering majority votes. Then,the opposition coalition members protested infront of the chief's office, demanding no foul play with an immediate appointment of Krishna Chandra Nepali as the Chief Minister.
