Because patients from neighboring districts are usually referred to many Pokhara based hospitals, the city requires daily blood supply of around 70-80 units.

The local election fever has led to another crisis in the capital city of Gandaki Province wherein programs such as blood donations were put into a halt since May 9. Moreover, the concerned authorities in their attempt to cope up with this blood shortage problem had organized an emergency blood donation program at Shahid Chowk, Pokhara that saw the collection of 66 units of blood. Likewise, the organizers of the event, Srijana Development Centre and Regional Blood Transfusion Centre under the Red Cross Society, Kaski were looking forward to the continuation of such programs such that the health institutions in Pokhara will be getting enough supply of fresh blood in order to treat many administered patient's.
