On this very first day of a ten day festive season of Bada Dashain, commonly known as , 'Ghatasthapana' where the Hindu people all over the country are seen performing the Vedic rituals by performing prayers and sowing seeds of barley at home in a clay pot or kalash filled with cow dung and soil which later on the tenth day forms as Jhamara- the germinated seedling.

The auspicious time of Ghatasthapana has been fixed at 11.46 am by Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Samiti. Similarly, devotees worship to Goddess Durga, as its believed that the Goddess will protect the family since this day is also marked when the Goddess Durga had won a victorious war against the demons.
