Meet the new Police Chief from Gandaki Province.

  • After 14 months of delay due to COVID-19 pandemic,Home Minister Khagaraj Adhikari, yesterday transferred 16 Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGS) and 15 Super Superintendent of Police (SSPs) respectively.

    As per the transfer list,DIG Ganshyam Aryal of Gandaki Province Police Office,Pokhara has been transferred to Special Bureau whereas DIG Dibesh Lohani who worked for Nepal Police Operation and Crime Investigation Department (CID)will now be taking his place as Gandaki Province Police Chief.

    On 7 January, Lohani as a newly promoted DIG had been confered with insignia at Nepal Police Headquarters, before he served as SSP.

    DIG Lohani made headlines in the year 2018 for his alleged involvement in the high-profile gold smuggling case and so was sent to the judicial custody by the District Court of Morang. He was again condemned for his actions because he was found to have assaulted a cameraman who was filming him,outside the court. DIG Lohani was later released by the High Court,Biratnagar.

    Likewise,Gandaki Province Police SSP Bikram Bahadur Chand will take charge of Sudurpaschim Province Police,Dipayal as SSP Narbahadur Khatri from District Police Office, Kaski has replaced him.

    Another SSP Krishnahari Sharma of Nepal Police Research Planning and Development Directorate will be resuming SSP Khatri's position.

    Moreover, SSP Chand was previously deployed at Kanchanpur to quell rising public anger over the police administration's incompetence to solve 'Nirmala Panta' murder case.
