Rain- triggered landslides and floods wreak havoc in Gandaki Province

    This torrential rainfall ,since past few day's has been sweeping the denizens across Kaski  and it's nearby district in particular. Scroll down below to witness Mother nature's wrath.

    1. The town of Seti beni bazaar, located at the border of Parbat,Syangja and Gulmi, has been submerged by the swollen Setikhola and Kaligandaki river.According to a local,Tilak Parajuli,'The city was drenched in floodwater since 4 in the morning wherein 10 houses were displaced by the catastrophe.'

    2. The Parbat-Baglung Road section of the Mid -Hill Highway along with Beni-Maldhunga Road, linking Myagdi and Mustang district has been blocked,since last night due to the prolonged monsoon rain-induced landslide in the region. As per,Krishna Thapa,Chief of Traffic Police ,Parbat ,'The Parbat-Baglung route was blocked after the Rockfall at Sahasradhara, Kusma Municipality whereas landslide at Farse, Lamakhet,Nangliwang of Jaljala Rural Municipality-8,7,3 caused disruption along Beni-Maldhunga road '

    3. The Waling-Huwas Road that connects many small villages in Syangja,Palpa,Kaski,Parbat districts has been similarly disrupted because of the landslide at the Nakedada of Waling-9 caused by the incessant rainfall since Saturday. Meanwhile, Mayor Dilip Pratap Khand inspected the overall scene. Also, Besishahar-Chame Road has been affected by the havoc.

    4. The unabated rains for the past three days has obstructed the Beni-Jomsom Roadway with the deposition of mudslides mainly in particular areas like Rupse,Naini Bagar,Nagdhunga of Annapurna Rural Municipality, Myagdi ward numbers 2 and 3 respectively. At the same time,District Police office,Mustang informed that six houses were swept away at Chame Rural municipality.

    5. Out of 60,10 households has been flooded in Taalagaun area of Naso Rural Municipality-1, Manang district after heavy downpour lashes the region for two days. CDO Bishnu Lamichhane confirmed that police personel are sent for the rescue mission.

    6. About 15 houses in Lupra village of Manag district are in risk as a result of a debris flood on the Lupra river, Waragung Muktichetra Rural Municipality.The Chief Rural Municipality, Fenchuk Cheten Gurung informed that yesterday afternoons rainfall has triggered flood in the area.

    7. The landslide in Jiredi,Kathekhola Rural Municipality of Baglung district has led to the displacement of five houses, as said by Ward Chairman, Prem GC. The displaced people have been relocated to safer place by the District Police Office,Baglung.

    8. In some places of Gandaki Province Capital, Pokhara,the situation seems to have caught off guard as the problem lies in the fact that in most parts of the city,there is no any proper storm water drainage system with inadequate runoffs,logged with debris and wastages while affecting the natural drainage network and resulting into street flooding.

    The irrigation canal has been damaged by the rains in Lamachaur-16 of Pokhara.

    At Baidam-6,Street 31, near Basantabaithak nahar marga, three houses owned by Basu Poudel and  Bisheshwor Poudel have been affected by the overflowing rainingwater from the drainage system which entered their house. The ward office Chief,Jagat Bahadur Pahari stated that with the help of dozer, the water has been pulled out from the houses.

    The settlement near Siddhamarga located in Nayabazar-9, is at possible risk caused by the rock and debris fall during the peak rainfall, near the roadway adjacent to Seti River.

    The newly appointed CM of Gandaki Province, Krishna Chandra Pokharel Nepali has directed the concerned authorities at the local level for the rescue operations in the worst affected area of the province and given an assurance to distribute sufficient relief aid without any delay.
