The census of the winter migratory birds has taken place in the neighbouring areas and Chitwan National Park itself which is jointly organized by Bird Organization Society, Nepal Ornithologists Association, Himalayan Nature, National Trust for Nature Conservation and CNP Buffer Zone Community Forest groups respectively.

The counting of the birds which was established some 35 years ago in Nepal has brought a team of experts who have been recording the number of the winter migratory birds using technology in many areas of Chitwan since January 1 such as Koshi River, Ghodaghodi Lake, Shuklaphanta Park, Bish Hajari Lake, Batuli, Kumal, Tikauli Satrahajari Lake, Lami Lake , Tamor Lake, Paraná Lake, Lotharkhola, Kasaraghat among others. Moreover, the winter bird census takes place annually from January 1-15 and particularly is conducted at wetland clusters of 15 different places around Nepal.
