Today marks the 207th birth anniversary(1814 AD)of the famous Aadikavi.Born in an upper class Brahmin family,he bridged the gap between the two societies since many common people were subdued from the jewels of literature which was mostly based in Sanskrit language-perceived as a incomprehensible and foreign dialect for most of them.Realising that, he not only started writing but also tanslated various Sanskrit based poems including Ramayana in Nepali language and since then the world of Nepali literature peaked momentum and was never the same.

Due to the pandemic,a week long elaboratative celebration in his birth place has shortened but the spirit remains the same in his remembrance. Read on to know more about it.

In the honour of the national luminary,the municipality which was named after him,Bhanu Municipality has declared public holiday just like the previous year in all the government as well as public offices.The employees at the municipality have been wearing the Birkhe Topi (a cap like that adorned by the poet) mandatorily since June 16 of last year. Likewise, poetry recitation programme will be arranged at the Bhanubhakta Birthplace Development Committee Office, informed Mayor Uday Raj Gauli.

Moreover,this day is celebrated by Gorkha communities in regions like Sikkim, Darjeeling, Nagaland,Siliguri and othe places with Nepali language speaker bodies.
